Hello Readers!  I, on behalf of the third grade, apologize for the absence of new posts over the past month.  February was an extremely busy month for us in the 3rd Grade.  We have been extremely busy working on our units on Charlotte's Web, Energy, Fullerton's History, The Sacraments and Division.  Posted are some poems the students created using Google Docs for the first time this past month.  The poems are based on the main characters in Charlotte's Web.

We also started a new project that we will be working on with the 4th Grade - "A Week in the Life..." Flat Classroom Project (AWL - FCP).  We will be connecting with other 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students from around the world to learn about a week in their lives as well as sharing about our lives.  We are extremely excited to start this project and will try to keep you informed of the things we learn along the way.

Below is the digital handshake we created for the AWL Flat Classroom Project.  A digital handshake is a creative way of digitally introducing yourself to someone or a group of people.  You can use a picture with a description, video, audio recording, slide show or anything else that is digital.  We hope you enjoy our video created on www.animoto.com.

Catholic Schools Week 2012

This past week ACS celebrated Catholic Schools Week. All week long the students, their families and the staff participated in activities that celebrated this year's theme: faith, academics and service. Check out summaries and pictures of the 3rd Grade celebrating throughout the week!
Catholic Schools Week 2012

We kicked off the week by celebrating our Catholic faith on Sunday at the All School Liturgy at St. Philip Benizi! Many students and families joined the rest of the Parish in celebrating Christ's teachings.

On Monday, the 3rd Grade joined in celebrating school spirit! The entire school wore the colors of the rainbow. The 3rd grade's color was blue.

On Tuesday, the 3rd Grade, along with their 8th grade buddies, celebrated service! We traveled to Terrace View Nursing Home in Fullerton to spend time and minister to the residents. We had an amazing time playing bingo and other games, reading, coloring, and painting the nails of some residents. Many students can't wait to return to spend more time with the residents.

On Wednesday, ACS students celebrated their teachers. Throughout the day, there were special events, like a delicious breakfast, for the teachers!

On Thursday, ACS celebrated the students. Throughout the day there were special activities in and outside of class! The students got a special treat at lunch of Dippin' Dots and an extended recess! Many 3rd graders wished everyday could be like Student Day!

On Friday, ACS students, their families and staff came together to celebrate families with an old fashioned picnic on the main lawn. Everyone had such a fabulous time spending time together while eating their picnic lunches.

Christmas Break

Dear Readers,
On my break before Christmas Morning, all I did was eat, sleep and watch TV. On Christmas, my brother and I woke up at 3 or4 in the morning and we tried to wake up our tired parents. They said they would wake up at 7:00 am. My brother and I went downstairs and watched TV until 7:00. At 7:00 my parents woke up and came downstairs and we finally opened our big presents. One of my favorite presents was a remote control helicopter. Now I can't wait until next Christmas!

Sincerely,
Nate

My Trip to Mexico

Dear World,
I went to Mexico during Christmas Vacation. First my mom said to me that my Grandma and my Uncle Joe where coming to Mexico. When I went on the airplane I was scared because I thought it was going to fall. The airplane took a long time. My Grandpa picked us up from the airport in Mexico. In Mexico we went to 3 houses. The first house was my Great Uncle's house. The second house was my Aunt's house and her dog lives on the roof. I was in Mexico for 8 days and I had lots of fun.

Sincerely,
Vanessa

Trip to Knott's Berry Farm

Dear Readers of our Blog,
This Christmas Break I went to Knott's Berry Farm with my parents. When we went in I looked at my map and found a ride I wanted to go on. My dad and I went on the train while my mom went shopping. We went and got a messy funnel cake and ate it. My mom called us and wanted a funnel cake so we had to order one more. While we were walking around I saw a marshmellow gun but my dad wouldn't buy it. I also saw some other toy guns but my dad wouldn't buy them either. I wanted to go on the train again but it was closed so we left and ate dinner. I had a fun time at Knott's!

Sincerely,
Paul

My Christmas Break

Dear Readers of our Blog,
I want to tell you about the games I played over Christmas Break. I got a new one called Monster Stunt Racer 4x4. My brother got Kung Fu Panda Two. I have others like MX vs. ATV Untamed. My favorite is Excite Truck because it has my favorite truck Raven. I can also tell you about the videos I watched. I watched my videos Mario and Luigi running from the cops, Project Ninja Three, Monster Mutt Tribute, Monster Jam: The Wild Side and Bulldozer Tribute. Hope you all had a great break too!

Your truly,
Jacob
